Dr. Sanford, Thank you very much for providing such a comprehensive overview of this topic, which is a novel approach to leveraging AI robotic technology. However, like any new technology, it’s a double edge sword as you pointed out. They are pluses and minuses, positives and negatives.
I have a big issue with big tech companies putting out technology to the public that is untested to an extent, and/or using the public to gather data and refine/update their tech products.
This is an especially sensitive issue when it comes to robotic human interaction, because what starts as voluntary and complementary might eventually lead to the opposite.
I like your proposed solutions, but I don’t trust big tech—which maximizes profits at the expense of consumer safety and privacy.
People need to remember that they are usually the unwilling products of big tech—per gathering all users’ personal and private data, then aggregating it and selling it to marketers and advertisers.
Thus, I think what we need is some stringent government oversight and regulation similar to what the European Union is doing. These big tech companies should not be allowed to continue providing consumers with untested products in an unregulated environment. It should be evident by now that we cannot trust big tech to Police itself. And therein lies the big problem.
