I was very fortunate growing up as a child to have my parents take me into the city on a regular basis. We went to museums, we went to Broadway plays, we went to all the landmarks like the Empire State building and the Statue of Liberty. I went to the New York Knicks basketball games at Madison Square Garden, with my dad, and we had season tickets for the NY Jets NFL football team. My parents had friends who lived in New York City whom we visited. And, as I noted, my late dad worked in New York City for about 40 long years, commuting every day from Long Island and never missing work. I have such good memories visiting him in his office as a child.
But yeah, you deserve a lot of credit for venturing out on your own into one of the most challenging cities in the world to navigate. Please don’t forget my invite as a tour guide to the nation’s capital if you happen to visit in the future. It’s a very refreshing change from the Big Apple, as NYC is known!
