I watched that congressional hearing closely as many senators expressed outrage at this alarming situation. However, equally alarming is the fact that Congress has been derelict in their duties to regulate social media for two decades and counting now. This is further proof of our broken and dysfunctional political system, which is badly in need of reform. I believe that the great Carl Sagan would agree if he were alive today. At least for European Union has been taking some stringent regulatory action, which of the USA should learn from and emulate.
Our infinitesimal pale blue dot of a planet riding on a sunbeam—to paraphrase Sagan—is experiencing a precarious period in modern history. I wonder what Sagan would say about it if he were still alive. I know that his son has picked up the mantle, but his father was one of a kind.
