Martin, I really enjoyed reading this piece. You make many excellent points. Sometimes I think about what would happen in situations where the races, or religions or national origins or genders were reversed. Frankly, having worked in the civil rights community for two decades, I think Israel and the global Jewish community have been thrown under the bus by the so-called social justice warriors. Moreover, today’s young people supporting the Palestinian cause and accusing Israel of apartheid and colonization, are woefully ignorant of facts and history. This is shameful. Anyone who launches such vehement protests and demonstration’s should at least understand the basic facts and history of what they’re saying, rather than just spewing hate and bile.
Before this ugly episode of Antisemitism on colleges campuses and in big cities, I used to have faith in young people to step up to the plate and address the many problems we face in a serious and substantive manner—from climate change to political campaign reform. However, now I am doubtful.
