Mike: It’s absolutely terrible that you have had to deal with this painstakingly frustrating problem now for weeks. I really hope that Medium is doing everything possible to safeguard your account and remedy this problem with the scammers to protect other users.
Perhaps if the Medium staff was more transparent about this problem—as I strongly urged in a previous story—then more users would be aware and stay vigilant about reporting related threats and clone phishing scams. And while I’m glad your account was restored relatively quickly (I think) that does nothing to alleviate the emotional distress for which you have already needlessly been subjected.
