Scott, you raise some excellent points about prioritizing mental illness as part of a larger strategy regarding enactment of sensible gun reform laws. However, I would note that it was in fact President Trump who intentionally eviscerated Obama era regulations that made it more difficult for people with mental illness to obtain guns. Thus, once again, the divider-in-chief is speaking out of both ends of his mouth for political expediency, putting his self-interest above the national interest he purports to represent — an all too familiar pattern by now.
