thom h. boehm: Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughtful comments, which are always most appreciated. Although the Wikimedia Foundation appears to be diligently working to bridge the gender gap in women’s content and staff on English Wikipedia — via “Women in Red” and “edit-a-thons” — much more could always be done to expedite the process in effectuating gender equality. Attempts to advance gender parity on Wikipedia resemble a marathon compared to a sprint.
Unfortunately, sex bias is a historic and present social reality deeply ingrained in our culture. This is reflected on English Wikipedia’s pages and among its volunteer staff of editors. The good news is that incremental progress is being made and every new piece of new Wikipedia content (bios) about women is one more step in the direction toward equality.
