Trump already allegedly tried to seize power illegally but failed. His plan, as I understand it, was to stop the certification of the election and then have the military seize all the voting machines. That’s why he installed political cronies to lead the Department of Defense toward the end of his first term. He tried to do the same at the Justice Department but failed.
This, Trump may also have declared martial law, according to memos circulating at the time about these nefarious plans.
American democracy barely triumphed in 2020. If the American people vote for a tyrant to be president again—knowing everything we know now—then those voters will only have themselves to blame for the resulting chaos and possible loss of democracy as we know it.
